FAQs

What is a CFP®?

Although many professionals may call themselves “financial planners,” CFP® professionals have completed extensive training and experience requirements and are held to rigorous ethical standards. They understand all the complexities of the changing financial climate and will make recommendations in your best interest. Learn more about the designation on the CFP website.

What can a financial advisor do for me that I can’t do myself?

If your financial life seems to be spinning out of control, you’re not alone. Today more than ever, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals are an essential resource. From budgeting, to planning for retirement, to saving for education, to managing your taxes and your insurance coverage, “finances” doesn’t mean just one thing for most Americans — and “financial planning” means much more than just investing. Bringing all the pieces of your financial life together is a challenging task. See more at the CFP website.

Who is your typical client?

While our clients represent a spectrum of industries and age groups, they include: professionals, corporate executives, small business owners, agri-business operations, and many who were careful savers and investors, and many of the clients we serve are “Boomers” and their parents. Most new clients come to us by referral from existing clients and accountants and attorneys.

What are your fees / or compensation?

We are a primarily fee-based practice, however our our business model allows us to be compensated in different ways, allowing us to apply the most appropriate approach to each client’s situation. Often a fee-based Advisory approach is the fit, other times a one-time commissionable approach, and for others an hourly fee. What is important is how the client is best served.

If a fee-based Advisory account is appropriate for you, our fee schedule can range from 0.70% to 1.5% per annum based on the value and complexity of the account. The exact fee is based on the type and nature of the account, while taking into consideration all surrounding circumstances and the total package of services to be rendered to the client. We are better able to quote our fee after having had a chance to talk with you and learn more about your situation and the work we would be doing for you.

Do you have a minimum assets requirement for investment management?

To us the exact size of the account is not the only appropriate criteria, which is why we do not have a flatly stated asset minimum. There are many factors that go into deciding whether to work with a prospective client.
